Child Protection and Safeguarding

Safeguarding Statement
East Preston Junior School School is committed to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All Staff and Governors share this objective by:
  • Providing a safe environment for them to learn.
  • Identifying children who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm and taking appropriate action.
To achieve these objectives we will:
  • Promote and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
  • Ensure everyone understands their roles and responsibilities in respect of safeguarding and is provided with appropriate learning opportunities to recognise, identify and respond to signs of abuse, neglect and other safeguarding concerns relating to children.
  • Ensure appropriate action is taken in the event of incidents/concerns of abuse and support provided to the individual/s who raise or disclose the concern.
  • Ensure that confidential, detailed and accurate records of all safeguarding concerns are maintained and securely stored.
  • Ensure robust safeguarding arrangements and procedures are in operation.
  • Contribute to effective partnership working between all those involved in providing services for our children.
Our school participates in Operation Encompass, a project run jointly between schools and Sussex Police. Operation Encompass has been designed to provide early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that occur in which a child was present, ordinarily resident at the incident location or with an involved party. We know that children can be significantly affected through witnessing or being exposed to domestic abuse and this operation will allow our school to better support our pupils and their families. Nominated members of school staff, known as ‘Key Adults’, are trained to liaise with the police.
At East Preston Junior School, our Key Adults are designated safeguarding lead and the headteacher.
Our Designated Safeguarding Officers are:
Mr Dave Lott (Acting Head)
Mrs Josie Howard (Assistant Head for Inclusion)
Mr Phil Smith (Assistant Head)
