Alongside our playground, large field, quiet courtyard and play trail, we have now opened up our woodland area for children to use at break and lunchtimes. The area contains trees and other hedge plants, as well as loose logs, pallets, and other materials that children can use for play and construction at break times.
The aim of the area is to allow children opportunities to take managed risks, in a way that is less commonly possible in our current times. The children are encouraged to explore and be active, while also evaluate risks for themselves and taking actions to minimise those risks. We know that sometimes this will mean bumps and scratches, the occasional splinter, and even the odd tumble and fall, but we also think that such risks are an important part of growing up.

A short risk assessment document is attached to this page identifying some of the key actions the school takes to maintain a safe area.
