🌟 Cross Country Finals – A Muddy, Mighty Monday! 🌟
Monday 2nd February
What an incredible day of determination, teamwork and pure grit! On Monday, a group of our superstars from Year 5 and Year 6 took part in the Cross Country Finals at Windlesham House School, facing a tough course that was longer, muddier and hillier than anything they’d run before. At 1.8km, with slippery patches, undulating hills, different surfaces and even part of a golf course to navigate, this was a true test of bravery and stamina!
🏃♀️ Year 5 – Morning Session (10am–12pm)
Girls Race
We kicked off with the Year 5 girls, and our two runners absolutely gave it their all.
One of our athletes — running up a year group — amazed everyone with her determination and even qualified for the next round! A brilliant achievement and a moment to be proud of!
Boys Race
Next up were the Year 5 boys. With over one hundred runners on the starting line, the competition was fierce.
Our boys showed tremendous resilience, powering up hills and battling the mud like champions. One of our runners held the lead right until the very end, only losing steam in the final stretch — but still securing a fantastic 2nd place finish!
After the excitement, the Year 5 team returned to school wet, muddy… but smiling from ear to ear!
🏃♂️ Year 6 – Afternoon Session (1pm onwards)
The Year 6 team arrived just after lunch, ready for action. Before racing, we walked the course together — all 1.8km of twists, turns and tricky terrain — to prepare ourselves for the challenge ahead.
Girls Race
Our two Year 6 girls set off first. The hills were tough and the ground was slippery, but they dug deep, kept pushing and showed amazing perseverance. Even as tiredness hit, they never gave up and finished brilliantly!
Boys Race
Finally, the Year 6 boys lined up for their race. They ran with everything they had — you could see from their faces (and the dramatic finishes!) that they’d pushed themselves right to the limit.
Among many strong performances, we were thrilled to celebrate an 8th‑place finish, earning yet another qualification for the next round!
🌈 A Day to Remember
From start to finish, our runners showed courage, sportsmanship and a true school spirit. Whether they finished near the front, middle or end, every child took on a very tough course and achieved something to be proud of.
🥇 Amazing running.
🌧️ Mud everywhere.
😁 Smiles all round.
A huge well done to all our competitors – you represented the school brilliantly!
Yours in sport,
Mr J Etherington (PE Lead)
