Cross Country Qualifiers
On Wednesday 14th January, over 20 determined athletes represented our school at this year’s Cross Country Qualifying Event, hosted at The Angmering School. The competition marked the official kick-off to the 2026 sporting calendar, and despite the cold, grey post‑rain conditions, the atmosphere was electric with anticipation and team spirit.
Challenging Conditions, Unshakeable Determination
Although the rain had finally eased, the course remained long, muddy, and energy‑sapping, demanding both physical endurance and mental resilience. Far from dampening enthusiasm, the chilly winter air only seemed to sharpen the focus of our runners.
Our squad featured a dynamic mix of seasoned cross‑country competitors aiming for personal bests and newcomers ready to push beyond their comfort zones. Each athlete demonstrated tactical awareness, from controlled pacing on the straights to powerful acceleration on the final technical sections.
Exceptional Performances Across the Board
Every pupil gave their all, conquering the terrain with grit and determination. We are incredibly proud of every runner who took part, and several delivered standout performances that secured top positions:
- Year 5 Girls: 🥇 1st place, 🥉 3rd place
- Year 5 Boys: 🥇 1st place, 🥈 2nd place
- Year 6 Girls: 🥉 3rd place
- Year 6 Boys: 🥇 1st place, 🥉 3rd place
These outstanding results mean that a number of our athletes have now qualified for the next stage of the competition at Windlehsam House School—a notoriously technical, undulating course that will test stamina, strategy, and hill‑running technique to the limit. We know they’ll rise to the challenge.
A Brilliant Start to the Sporting Year
The event not only showcased athletic talent but also highlighted teamwork, resilience, and the joy of trying something new. Whether experienced or stepping onto the start line for the first time, every participant contributed to a memorable and inspiring day.
We look forward to cheering on our qualifiers at the next round—and celebrating many more sporting successes throughout the year!
Yours in sport,
Mr J Etherington (PE Lead)
