Cross Country Regional Finals - 27/03/25

On Thursday last week, three boys travelled to Crawley to compete in their regional cross country final. This followed their success in their previous round at Windlesham House School. The boys efforts contributed towards a 3rd place finish in both the Year 5 and Year 6 category for the Sussex runners.

A parent spectator reported this on their child's efforts:

Seve always enjoys taking part in the interschool events at Angmering school and usually does well in the Angmering mile; consistently finishing in the top 5 in recent years. When he made the top 20 cut for the Southern Area finals at Windlesham in February, he was delighted to be able to once again represent EPJS.

However, the event yesterday presented Seve with a new challenge he had not before had to overcome.

His Dad took him and we have to admit, it all started a bit confused, with Seve not hearing the starting whistle, and instead of being ready at the front,  Seve found himself to be the last person to cross the start line!

It could have knocked his confidence, it could have been game over. But from there, he showed just how much grit and determination he has, over the course of race, he managed to overtake 89 other competitors and finishing 101st overall.

Unintentional though it was, it turned out to be a great character building experience for him to have the opportunity to see what it feels like to be at the bottom, pick himself up and push through, against the odds. Not win; but to keep going and still make great progress. We just wanted to recognise this.

Even gifted sports people have difficult days, and we were so proud of how Seve responded to the situation, gave it his best, and held his head high as he crossed the line.

Overall, the collective efforts of the individuals were taken into account to decide 1 st 2nd and 3rd group efforts. Seve and Haakon were part of the wider effort Sussex runners, who came Bronze medalists overall.

Congratulations to everyone who took part and thank you for including EPJS in events like this. A wonderful experience.

A huge effort from all three boys in what was an incredibly difficult race. Their success stands as a testament to their hard-work and dedication in sport and should be a platform to encourage others.

Yours in sport,

Mr J Etherington (PE Lead)
