EPJS: The Home of New Age Kurling
For the third year running EPJS hosted the annual locality New Age Kurling Competition and despite some last minute withdrawals, the competition went ahead. In a revised format St. John’s brought two teams to play against the two teams representing EPJS.
Children from across all four year groups pulled on the hallowed blue shirt and represented their school under the flag of Trinidad and Tobago (our Commonwealth Games country of choice).
Mr. Gwynn had 2 matches running simultaneously and the children really developed their play over the course of the hour long event. There was some tremendous accuracy and as the evening wore on some increasing tactical awareness with the use of blocking stones, and promoting others.
Whilst St John’s edged the overall tournament, the children really enjoyed the session with smiles all around and a keen desire to play more of this sport.
Thank you to Mr. Gwynn for organising the event and to our opponents St John’s for making the longest trip within our locality cluster - from Findon. Thanks also to all of the parents that stayed to cheer along and also to the children themselves without whom these competitions and the fun and pleasure that come with them do not happen!
