Girls’ Basketball Bonanza – A Brilliant Afternoon of Skills, Teamwork and Smiles!

On Thursday 12th March, the sports hall at The Angmering School was alive with energy as 17 enthusiastic girls from our school arrived for a special girls‑only basketball event. With enough players to form three whole teams, we knew from the very start it was going to be an action‑packed afternoon!

The event tipped off with an introduction to three key basketball skills:
🏀 Dribbling – bouncing the ball with control
🏀 Passing – working as a team to move the ball around
🏀 Shooting – aiming carefully for the hoop

The girls listened brilliantly, then jumped straight into practising these new skills through fun, semi‑competitive drills. The hall was full of determination, concentration… and lots of laughter!

But the real excitement came next: six full games against other teams! Even though this was a huge number of matches to play, the girls showed incredible energy from start to finish. No one slowed down. No one gave up. Every player showed real grit, brilliant teamwork and a huge amount of enthusiasm.

One of the highlights of the whole afternoon was the way the girls supported one another. Whether they were on the court or cheering from the sidelines, the encouragement was constant and heartfelt. They celebrated baskets, clapped for great passes, and applauded brave attempts — the sportsmanship was fantastic to see.

They also impressed everyone with their organisation and teamwork off the court. The girls took charge of choosing their own positions and making substitutions without any help from adults. They communicated clearly, made fair choices, and worked together brilliantly — a wonderful display of independence.

The girls were an absolute credit to our school: polite, hardworking, enthusiastic and kind. We are incredibly proud of every single one of them.

Well done, teams — you dribbled, passed, shot and shone all afternoon!

 Yours in sport,

Mr J Etherington (PE Lead)
