🏅 Golden Glory at EPJS! Paralympian Inspires Pupils in Action-Packed Day 🏅
On Tuesday 2nd June, something truly extraordinary rolled into school… and it brought energy, excitement and inspiration with it! Pupils at East Preston Junior School were thrilled to welcome Paralympic gold medallist Kylie Grimes, the first ever female in the world to win gold in wheelchair rugby – a fast-paced sport also known as murderball!
From the moment she arrived, Kylie’s determination, resilience and positivity were clear to see – and our pupils were ready for the challenge!
💪 High-Energy Circuits That Had Everyone Moving!
Throughout the day, every class had the incredible opportunity to take part in a high-intensity circuit session led by Kylie herself. There was no time for standing still as children powered through four exciting activities:
- 🐶 Spotty dogs
- 💥 Push-ups
- 🚴 Leg drives
- ⭐ Star jumps
It was a whirlwind of movement, effort and determination! Pupils pushed themselves to their limits, encouraging one another and showing fantastic resilience. The hall was buzzing with energy as every child gave their absolute best – truly embodying the spirit of a champion!
💷 An Incredible Fundraising Effort!
In the lead-up to the event, children had been busy collecting sponsorship for their participation – and what an amazing effort it was!
Together, the school raised over £1200, an outstanding achievement that reflects the generosity and commitment of our school community.
What a brilliant way to combine fitness, fun and fundraising!
🎤 An Assembly Full of Inspiration
The excitement didn’t stop there! Kylie also delivered a powerful and inspiring assembly that had the entire school captivated.
She spoke openly and honestly about what it takes to succeed, sharing important messages that will stay with our pupils for a long time:
- 🍎 The importance of healthy eating and a balanced diet
- 😴 Getting enough sleep to support your body and mind
- 🧠 Looking after your mental and physical health
- 🎯 The value of hard work and “staying the course”, no matter where you come from
Her story showed that success doesn’t come easily – but with perseverance, determination and belief in yourself, anything is possible.

From the adrenaline-filled circuits to the inspiring words of a Paralympic champion, this was a day that our pupils will not forget in a hurry.
Kylie’s visit reminded us all that greatness is not defined by obstacles, but by how we overcome them. Every child should feel incredibly proud of their effort, enthusiasm and positive attitude throughout the day.
