Indoor Athletics Success for Years 5 & 6!
On Monday 26th January, our brilliant Year 5 and Year 6 athletes headed to The Angmering School for an action‑packed Indoor Athletics Festival—and what an afternoon it turned out to be!
Both teams arrived buzzing with excitement, ready to represent our school with determination, teamwork and lots of smiles.
⭐ A Fast Start: The Obstacle Race!
The event kicked off with a thrilling obstacle race. Four members from each team sprinted across the hall, weaving in and out of poles and finishing with five powerful speed bounces. It was an electric start and a fantastic way to warm everyone up!
⭐ Speed Bounce Superstars
Next came the dedicated speed bounce event, where rhythm, balance and quick feet are the key to success.
Even though many of our young athletes had only practised a handful of times, some of their performances were genuinely jaw‑dropping—they bounced like professionals!
⭐ Field Event Rotation
The excitement continued as the teams rotated around a series of field events, testing strength, technique and jumping power:
- Standing Long Jump
- Standing Triple Jump
- Vertical Jump
- Chest Throw
Our pupils tackled every challenge with enthusiasm and brilliant sportsmanship.
⭐ Track Time!
Then it was on to the track races:
🏃♂️ 1-lap and 2-lap partner races kept everyone on their toes, with teammates cheering loudly from the sidelines.
One of the trickiest events of the afternoon followed—the 6-lap Parlauf. Athletes had to split the laps however they thought best, showing clever thinking as well as stamina. Both year groups worked brilliantly together and showed fantastic teamwork.
⭐ The Big Finish: Relay Race
The final event, the 4‑athlete relay, was as exciting as ever! Baton changes were sharp, legs were pumping and the energy in the hall was incredible.
🏆 Results: A Fantastic Achievement!
After all the events were completed, it was time for the results… and our school absolutely shone!
🎉 Year 6 Boys – Best Performing Boys Team
🎉 Year 5 Girls – Best Performing Girls Team
🎉 Year 5 Joint Team – Overall Winners of the Entire Event!
What an amazing set of achievements! We are incredibly proud of every single athlete who took part. Their effort, behaviour and team spirit were outstanding from start to finish.
A huge thank you to the staff and parents who supported the teams—and of course to our fantastic pupils, who represented our school beautifully.
Yours in sport,
Mr J Etherington (PE Lead)
