Locality Fixture Success: A Thrilling Afternoon of Football and Netball!

On Thursday 26th February, our pupils took to the courts and pitches of The Angmering School for what became an unforgettable—and unusually busy—round of locality fixtures. After recent poor weather led to several postponements, this second round featured five back‑to‑back games for both our football and netball teams, instead of the usual two. That meant more action, more challenge, and plenty more opportunities for our pupils to shine.

Netball: Confidence Growing, Skills Flowing

Our netball team, led by Mr Coates, stepped onto court with a mix of experienced players and excited new faces. Each match was played straight through for eight intense minutes—no breaks, no half‑times, just determination and teamwork from whistle to whistle.

Across their five fixtures, the team finished with two fantastic wins, one hard‑fought draw, and two narrow losses. What stood out most was the way they grew with every match:

  • Increasing confidence under pressure
  • Smooth, flowing movement down the court
  • Resilience and positivity, even when facing more experienced opponents

Their development across the afternoon was clear for all to see, and they represented the school with pride, teamwork and enthusiasm.

Football: Unbeaten and Unbreakable at the Back

Over on the football pitch, the excitement continued. Led by our school’s PE Lead (Mr Etherington), the football squad delivered an outstanding set of performances full of energy, discipline and attacking flair.

Across their five matches—also played straight through at eight minutes each—the team finished undefeated, earning four victories and one draw. Even more impressively, they scored 12 goals and conceded none, a testament to their organisation, communication and relentless determination.

The players responded brilliantly to feedback, encouraged one another throughout, and demonstrated exactly the kind of sportsmanship and team spirit we value as a school.

A Proud Day for Our School Community

With ten fixtures completed in a single afternoon, our pupils showed stamina, skill and a wonderfully positive attitude. Both teams should feel incredibly proud of their achievements—not just in the results, but in the way they represented the school with respect, effort, and teamwork.

We look forward to seeing their continued progress as the season unfolds. Well done to all involved!

Yours in sport,

Mr J Etherington (PE Lead)
