School Games: Girls Tag Rugby
An extremely busy evening of tagrugby was in store for our girls in their first outing as an E.P. girls' team. 11 schools from across West Sussex took part in an area finals' competition - with only locality rivals Georgian Gardens a team we had met before.
Ten matches were played in frenetic hour and a half. With each game lasting 5 minutes in duration there was little time for respite and the players certainly did themselves proud to play such a high tempo of rugby over an extended period of time.
Tries came from all over the pitch with Olivia scoring a hat-trick in the opening game as well as Libby, Marcelina, Maisie, Ruby and Poppy adding tries across the day.
Well done to all that took part today - particularly the Year 5 girls enjoying their first taste of rugby: Ellie, Poppy and Sophie (who after nearly scoring a try was forced to leave the field with an ankle injury).
An eighth placed finish was an outstanding result for an inexperienced team and there was very little between 3rd and 8th position. The Angmering Sports Leaders recognised our Captain - Olivia - as EP's player of the tournament and she was awarded a medal in recognition of this.
Thanks to all involved today - Miss Rose and Mrs Coates for organising and cheering on from the sides, parents and carers for providing transport, the Angmering Sports Leaders and Mr Jenner for organising such a fabulous tournament.
