Southern Area Basketball Finals – A Showcase of Skill and Strategy
On Tuesday 9th December, our school basketball squad competed in the Southern Area Basketball Finals at The Angmering School. The tournament featured 11 high-calibre teams from across the Southern Area, creating an intense and competitive environment.
The tournament began with group-stage fixtures, where our team demonstrated excellent spacing, ball movement, and defensive rotations. Despite the strong opposition, our seven players showed great composure under pressure, executing fast breaks, man-to-man defence, and transition plays with confidence. The pace was relentless, with end-to-end action and players working hard to maintain court balance and shot selection.
There were plenty of tactical highlights, including effective screens, drive-and-kick plays, and some outstanding individual performances. Two games provided unforgettable drama, both decided by buzzer-beater shots – a testament to our players’ ability to stay focused and deliver under time constraints.
After the group stage concluded, we faced our local rivals (St. Margaret's) in the playoff for 7th place. The match was a tactical battle, with both teams adjusting their defensive schemes and looking for opportunities to exploit mismatches. Ultimately, a late basket in the closing seconds sealed the result, and we finished in joint 7th place – a commendable outcome given the high standard of competition.
Our players displayed excellent teamwork, resilience, and game awareness, representing the school with pride. Congratulations to the squad for their commitment and tactical discipline throughout the tournament!
