Southern Area Football Finals – A Day to Remember!
On Wednesday 3rd December, our school proudly took part in the Southern Area Football Finals, hosted at The Littlehampton Academy. This prestigious event brought together 12 talented teams, with some travelling from as far as Shoreham, Steyning, and Lancing – a true showcase of regional football talent!
Preparation and Team Spirit
The day before the big event, our squad put in a focused training session, working hard on passing, tactics, and movement to ensure they were ready for the challenge ahead. With a 3:20pm start, our players left school early to arrive in plenty of time for a thorough warm-up. Despite the rain, spirits were high, and every player was determined to give their best.
The Matches
The games were played on a stunning 3G pitch, perfect for quick, sharp passing – and our team adapted brilliantly.
- First Match: We kicked off in style, racing to a 2-0 lead before holding on for a thrilling 2-1 victory.
- Tough Opposition: The following matches were fiercely contested, with narrow defeats by just one or two goals. Our players showed resilience, listened to feedback, and left everything on the pitch. Energy levels were incredible, and several individuals demonstrated outstanding leadership.
Final Game Drama
For our last match – a 16-minute showdown – we switched formation to a 2-3-1, aiming to control the midfield. After a tense start, the deadlock was broken when our central midfielder curled a superb free kick into the bottom corner! The opposition hit back after a goalmouth scramble, but our team refused to give in.
Wave after wave of attacks followed, with the ball moving beautifully from side to side. The keeper and the woodwork denied us repeatedly, until finally, one of our wingers unleashed a stunning strike into the far corner. Final score: 2-1 – a fantastic win!
Pride and Positivity
Regardless of results, our team showed skill, determination, and teamwork throughout the tournament. They represented our school with pride, and we couldn’t be more impressed with their attitude and effort.
Well done to all involved – you were amazing!
Yours in sport,
Mr J Etherington (PE Lead)
