Team EPJS Retain Jubilee Cricket Trophy

Rustington Jubilee Cricket Festival: Winners

To mark the culmination of the Platinum Jubilee festivities, Team EPJS attended the annual jubilee cricket competition run by Rustington Cricket Club — now in it’s 10th year, since its creation for the Diamond Jubilee. Originally created for the Rustington schools, EP has been invited for the most recent two years. Having won the trophy last year under the stewardship of Mr Smith, the team faced some pressure to perform as well as their forbears.  The rain had threatened a complete wash out, and whilst a little damp underfoot, it soon dried out and a full morning’s cricket was on the cards.

In a round-robin tournament EP played against local rivals Georgian Gardens and also academy rivals Rustington — there were plenty of tenanted young cricketers on parade for all sides with some strong batting witnessed throughout. It was however, EP’s strength in the bowling department that won them the day, with wickets being shared around. EP won both games at a canter and every member of the EP team contributed to the overall success of the day.

Following the final game, teams enjoyed a presentation party including a dance performance from local dance troupe Virtuoso Dance Company — which included our own Florence and Soraya — and medals presented to the players by the mayor of Rustington’s twin town of Kunzell. There was also an appearance by Percy Pig, who had kindly been donated by a local retailer for a hit-the-wicket competition.

We would like to pass on our thanks to Gareth and Simon and all involved in Rustington Cricket Club; to parents and carers for giving up their Sunday and their keen support throughout,; to our opponents for the way they played the game; and of course to our victorious crickets who have retained the trophy!
