Virtual Angmering Mile
In a surprise to the children this Tuesday, Locality PE Coordinator Mr Gwynn arrived at 9am to facilitate the whole school running a competitive mile-long race.
Prior to Coronovirus restrictions, the Angmering Mile has long been a fixture of the sporting calendar, having been run several times each year at the Angmering School for children who want to challenge themselves - and pit themselves against the best of locality runners!
With recent limitations in mind it was decided that we would have to make the race a virtual competition, in which all locality schools could enter and individual times would be entered to find the winners across our cluster of schools.
Every child at EPJS was given the opportunity to run in the race and it was important to understand that every runner would have a different objective: for some it would be to run a mile for the first time ever; for others to set a competitive time that they could look to beat in the future; and for another group to try and win the race in their class/year group/house.
We hope that our runners will also enjoy some individual and collective success against our locality rivals, but ultimately the real winner today was sport itself - with the children and Mr Gwynn keen to organise a follow up event in the near future.
Every child received a time eand these will be publicised in the coming days.
