Whole-School Cross Country: A Fantastic Day of Running, Teamwork and Triumph!
On Monday 16th March, our school came alive with energy, determination and lots of cheering as every pupil from Year 3 to Year 6 took part in our Whole-School Cross Country Event!
The challenge had been announced a couple of weeks earlier, and ever since then the anticipation had been palpable. Some children felt a little nervous about tackling a longer-distance run, while others were buzzing with excitement and ready to compete. The whole event was inspired by the TCS Mini London Marathon, after a thoughtful and enthusiastic Year 4 pupil suggested that our school should get involved. What a brilliant way to make a difference.
The Route
To keep things fair but challenging, the course was planned carefully:
- Years 3 & 4 ran 1 kilometre
➜ 3 laps of the field and playground - Years 5 & 6 ran just over 1 mile (1.7km)
➜ 5 laps around the perimeter
And there was plenty to compete for!
🏅 Medals for the top 3 boys and girls in each year group
🏆 The TCS Mini-Marathon Trophy for the highest-scoring house
How the Races Unfolded
Year 3 – Setting the Standard
The event began with a fantastic start as our Year 3 pupils lined up with a mix of excitement and determination. The girls began first, sprinting off to cheers from their classmates. Year 3 not only ran brilliantly—they also became the loudest cheerleaders of the day, encouraging every runner who followed!
Year 4 – Ready to Race!
Fresh from bringing the idea to life, Year 4 took to the track next. Their lap times were quick, their focus was clear, and their team spirit shone from start to finish. They definitely proved they were ready to put their training into action.
Year 5 – Fierce and Focused
In the afternoon, Year 5 stepped up to the starting line. With a longer distance to tackle, they showed incredible stamina and determination. There were some superb individual performances, and the competitive spirit was stronger than ever!
Year 6 – A Proud Finale
Last but certainly not least, Year 6 completed the day in style. Their pacing, encouragement for one another and positive attitude made their final primary-school cross country one to remember. What a way to finish!
Celebrating Success
At the end of the event, there were smiling faces everywhere. Every pupil showed:
- 🌟 Brilliant effort
- 🌟 Excellent behaviour
- 🌟 True sportsmanship
- 🌟 Huge enjoyment throughout the day
During a special assembly, the medals were awarded—and then came the moment everyone had been waiting for…
🟥 ROMANS WERE CROWNED CHAMPIONS! 🟥
They lifted the TCS Mini-Marathon Trophy to huge applause!
A Day to Remember
The whole-school cross country was a huge success from start to finish. Every runner, supporter and organiser helped make it a brilliant day filled with positivity, challenge and achievement. We are incredibly proud of every single pupil who took part.
Well done, everyone—and bring on next year’s challenge!
