Year 3/4 Basketball
🏀 Year 3 & 4 Basketball Tournament: Teamwork, Tactics and Tremendous Effort! 🏆
On a buzzing day of sporting excitement (Tuesday 7th October), nine talented Year 3 and 4 children took part in a local tournament at The Angmering School packed with energy, enthusiasm and expert skill-building!
The event kicked off with a series of skills-based activities designed to sharpen the players’ technique and understanding of the game. Each station focused on a key basketball skill:
- Passing – learning how to deliver accurate chest passes and bounce passes to teammates.
- Movement – practising how to find space, dodge defenders and stay active off the ball.
- Dribbling – mastering control while bouncing the ball with one hand, keeping eyes up and ready to react.
- Shooting – aiming for the hoop with precision, using the correct stance and follow-through.
The children tackled each activity with superb effort and concentration, completing one challenge before moving on to the next. Coaches were impressed by their focus, determination, and growth mindset.
After the training session, it was time to put those skills into action! Our team faced off against other local primary schools in a series of exciting matches. They used clever game-based tactics like:
- Marking opponents to prevent easy passes.
- Calling for the ball to support teammates.
- Fast breaks to move quickly from defence to attack.
- Team rotations to keep everyone involved and energised.
Their teamwork was outstanding, with players showing excellent communication, strategic thinking, and sportsmanship throughout. Every pass, dribble and shot showed how much they had learned.
At the end of the tournament, our team proudly secured 6th place—a fantastic achievement that reflected their hard work and team spirit.
Well done to all our basketball stars—you dribbled, passed and shot your way to success! 🏀👏
