Year 3 & 4 Football Teams Shine in High‑Intensity Tournament!
On Tuesday 20th January, our Year 3 and 4 football squads travelled to The Angmering School for a high‑energy, action‑packed football festival featuring competitive fixtures, tactical challenges and remarkable displays of teamwork.
This year, the event was split into two parallel leagues:
- Year 4 competed in the Premiership League, led by Mr Etherington.
- Year 3 competed in the Championship League, expertly managed by Miss Allen and strongly supported by her football‑enthusiast daughter.
From start to finish, both teams demonstrated technical precision, tactical maturity and outstanding resilience on the pitch.
Year 3: Championship League Finalists!
Our Year 3 team began the tournament with explosive momentum, delivering a flawless streak of group‑stage victories. Their attacking play was dynamic and fluid, marked by fast transitional movement, confident dribbling and clinical finishing. Defensively, they showed excellent positional awareness and disciplined marking, conceding very few chances throughout the opening rounds.
In the semi-final, the team continued their dominant run, securing a convincing win with intelligent passing sequences and well-timed interceptions.
The final was a nail-biting encounter. Despite their relentless energy and unwavering team cohesion, the squad were narrowly edged out in a tight contest. Nevertheless, their performance was exceptional from start to finish, showcasing huge potential and impressive tactical understanding for such a young squad.
Year 4: Premiership League Champions!
The Year 4 team’s journey was full of drama, determination and unforgettable moments. Entering a competitive Premiership group with three other strong local schools, they delivered two hard-fought draws and a crucial win. In an extraordinary twist, another school finished with identical results—including matching score lines! With no goal difference or points to separate the sides, the group ranking was decided by the most unexpected of tie‑breakers: Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Victory in this light‑hearted showdown sealed top place in the group for our Year 4s and propelled them into the knockout stages.
In the semi-final, the team showcased tremendous resilience, mounting a brilliant comeback victory thanks to composed build‑up play, sharp movement off the ball and confident finishing under pressure.
The final was a tactical battle from start to finish. A late equaliser from the opposition forced the match into a dramatic penalty shootout. Adding to the tension, our goalkeeper had only recently stepped into the role, having played just two matches in goal following a mid‑tournament swap.
What followed was a showcase of pure courage and athletic brilliance.
Our keeper produced a series of spectacular saves, pushing the shootout to sudden death—three times!
With nerves of steel and incredible team unity, our players eventually emerged victorious, securing the title of Premiership League Champions.
A Day of Skill, Spirit and School Pride
Both teams represented our school with outstanding sportsmanship, technical skill and tactical discipline. From commanding defensive blocks to fluid attacking combinations, every player contributed to a day filled with excitement and achievement.
- Year 3: Championship runners‑up after a stunning unbeaten run to the final
- Year 4: Premiership champions after a legendary penalty shootout victory
We could not be prouder of every child who took part. Their passion, resilience and team spirit were inspiring to watch, and they should feel incredibly proud of their performances.
A huge well done to both teams—what a phenomenal day of football!

Yours in sport,
Mr J Etherington
