Year 5/6 Indoor Cricket Tournament
On Thursday 15th January, eight enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 pupils represented our school at an Indoor Cricket Tournament, proudly run by the Sussex Cricket “Chance to Shine” initiative and played in the fast‑paced Dynamos format.
What a day it was!
A Journey That Set the Tone
The adventure began with a walk from school to the train station, followed by another walk from the next station to the host secondary school.
Conditions were truly awful—wet, windy and cold—but not once did any of the boys complain. Their resilience, positivity and team spirit shone before a single ball had even been bowled.
They arrived energised, smiling and ready to represent the school brilliantly.
Tournament Kick-Off
Upon arrival, the boys listened attentively to the rules briefing and quickly discovered their opponents for the group stage. Placed in a pool with three other schools, they wasted no time making their mark on the tournament.
Game 1 – A Fantastic Start!
The team opened their campaign with an outstanding 65–31 victory!
This match included:
- 3 superb wickets
- 5 powerful boundaries
- Sharp fielding
- Confident batting
It was exactly the start they hoped for, and spirits were high.
Game 2 – Facing a Strong Opponent
Their second match brought them up against a particularly strong and experienced side. Despite this challenge, our players continued to bat bravely, adjust their tactics and field with real intelligence. The boys showed adaptability, discipline and a willingness to learn on the spot—qualities that impressed everyone watching.
Game 3 – Courage Right to the End
The final group game began with some excellent fielding from our team, who threw themselves wholeheartedly into every stop to prevent boundaries. Although the opposition eventually secured the win after taking several wickets, our boys never stopped encouraging each other and giving 100% effort right until the final ball.
Commitment, Character and Celebration
One of the standout features of the whole tournament was the boys’ unwavering commitment. They were diving, sliding and stretching at full length to prevent runs—displaying teamwork, bravery and passion throughout the afternoon.
Their enjoyment was clear for all to see. When asked for feedback afterwards, the boys said:
“It’s fast-paced and harder than I thought!”
Despite the intensity of the matches, every head was held high, and every player supported their teammates with positivity and pride.
We Are All Incredibly Proud
This group of boys represented our school with:
- Outstanding sportsmanship
- Determination in challenging conditions
- Respect for opponents and officials
- Huge amounts of enthusiasm and joy
They should be extremely proud of both their performances and their attitudes.
Well done, boys—you were a credit to the school all day long!
Yours in sport,
Mr J Etherington (PE Lead)
