Year 6 Basketball Finals
After what had felt like an age, the Year 6's finally got to take part in their basketball finals. It was Tuesday this week and the stage was set at The Angmering School, with schools travelling from all over - some as far as Shoreham! The EPJS team were fired up and ready with a couple of additional players.
Each team was placed into two groups before fixtures began. During our first fixture, we came up against Thomas A Becket (TAB). As this game began, the team seemed nervous and took a few moments to find their feet. As it went on, it turned out to be a very competitive game with TAB coming out as winners. In the next three fixtures, EPJS showed dominance and put on a real high-energy performance. This energy was rewarded as the team won these three games.
Following this, all schools came back together and results were announced... EPJS finished top of their group! Next up, the semi-finals.
Jolesfield (a school from Horsham) were our next opponents. They seemed the part as they donned their very own basketball strip - including names on the back of their jerseys! Jolesfield took an early lead and it seemed as though it was going to be an early exit for EPJS. That is until the team stepped it up, scoring two with less than 30 seconds remaining to end the game as a 6-6 tie. Golden Basket loomed. The team seemed nervous, but ready. As Golden Basket got underway, both teams were keen to get that winning basket and the energy was outstanding! A stray ball ended in Jolesfield hands and a great shot from distance sealed the win for them. A great effort from both sides!
EPJS had one last game to play to decide if it was to be a 3rd or 4th place finished. In this game, the team really enjoyed themselves and had plenty of chances - they just would not end up in the hoop for some reason! Homefield (our opponents) won the game, meaning we finished as a remarkably impressive 4th place.
The team played exceptionally throughout the tournament and their enthusiasm was delightful to see. Here's looking forward to more basketball!
Yours in sport,
Mr J Etherington (PE Lead)
