Year 6 Smash Their Padel Taster Session!

On Tuesday 10th February, 32 very excited Year 6 children headed to Worthing Rugby Club for a fantastic Padel taster session. The event was hosted by Ryan, the manager of the Padel club, who was ready to share his passion for this fast-growing sport.

Right from the start, Ryan had everyone hooked. He introduced the children to Padel, explaining how it mixes the best bits of tennis and squash. He showed them the special bats, the slightly softer balls, and talked them through the unique court, complete with glass walls that you can bounce the ball off—something the children thought was brilliant!

After learning the basics, the group jumped straight into some lively warm‑up games, which quickly set the tone for the afternoon: energetic, competitive and lots of fun!

Next, the children practised their forehand and backhand shots, focusing on control and technique. Everyone worked hard, and there were some impressive rallies right from the start. They then moved on to volleying and serving, with many children discovering new skills they didn’t know they had.

The session finished with a fast-paced carousel game, where players rotated after every point. This kept everyone moving, thinking fast and working together—plus it brought out some brilliant teamwork and plenty of laughter.

Throughout the day, the children showed fantastic enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Several even said that Padel was “addictive!”—a sure sign that they enjoyed every minute.

A huge thank you to Ryan for giving Year 6 such an inspiring introduction to this exciting sport. Who knows? We may have discovered some future Padel stars!

Yours in sport,

Mr J Etherington (PE Lead)
