East Preston Junior School

Year 6 Street Cricket - 04/07/24

Before describing the evening's proceedings, Mr Coates and I would like to express out gratitude to this outstanding bunch of Year 6 children that have continously done themselves and their school proud. This would also not be possible without the support of all of their carers - not only do they bring them along to every event possible, they support, encourage and even occasionally provide donuts!

Rather impressively, EPJS had a total of 21 Year 6 children in attendance for this event (more than a third of the whole year group!). This gave us 3 teams, EPJS 1 led by myself (Mr Etherington), EPJS 2 led by Mr Coates and EPJS 3 led by an Angmering School sports leader. Throughout the tournament, all three teams played a total of five fixtures against each other and three other schools. Each team demonstrated a great understanding of the game, fantastic encouragement of others and effective cooperation/communication. Every game played was very close with teams claiming many wickets, scoring multiple 4's, and fielding excellently. In the end, team 1 finished 6th, team 2 finished 4th and team 3 finished 1st.

Following the event, we made sure to include adults in the team picture to show our appreciation!

Sadly this will be the last event for our current Year 6's as they begin their transition to secondary school. However, it fills me with joy to know that most of the children that have taken part in sporting fixtures throughout the years will continue to enjoy and participate in a range of physical activity.

Yours in sport,

Mr J Etherington (PE Lead)
